Priorities for Choosing Online Exercises

(Created by Classmates in TESOL PP 102 Listening Course)

Logistics

  • · Easily accessible with transparent procedures
    · User-friendly format supported by most operating systems
    · Few steps to get to the clip, with a direct link whenever possible
    · Excellent quality audio without distortion, static, or other problems
    · Providing a written transcript to provide at the end for a final listening

Content

  • · Interesting content to motivate participants to learn more and adapted to students’ immediate needs
    · A wealth of user-friendly supplementary materials & good supporting activities
    · Making use of the language & vocabulary that is part of my theme-based unit
    · Using the grammar and vocabulary my students currently need: videos
    · Having a cultural component to add to students cultural knowledge base
    · Level of material allowing improvement of listening skills, not discouragement
    · Short length, below 4 minutes

Listening Skills

· Attention to one or more of these objectives:

1 triggering ideas for discussion and writing
  2 listening comprehension
    3 developing critical listening skills
     4 practicing pronunciation
· Incorporating listening strategies and teaching of listening sub-skills
· Promoting higher order thinking skills
· Providing authentic online tasks
· Engaging several senses: visual, mental, and the sense of need specific to the course content and learner expectations
· Including pre, during and post listening exercises for reinforcement

Hi Rachid,

I just checked the link and it worked. This is a PDF, do you have Adobe Reader to open and read PDFs?
